We are so excited to be participating in this Fall tablescape blog hop. There is so much inspiration to see. Visiting us from Mint Candy Designs? Welcome to Clover Lane!!
This fall has brought many new experiences and changes for our little family. Rex is finishing up his final year of his surgical residency, so the job hunting and long term “life planning” and decision making have ensued! Work and church callings are keeping both Rex and I busy. Both are gratifying and challenging at the same time. Without a doubt, the most challenging change for me is having both boys in school all day. I miss (almost) everything about not having them home! I do however love that my house stays clean for 7 hours a day! Minus the clean house, I miss the laughing, art projects, watching them engineer homemade squirt guns, Lego creations, field trips, their stories, and so much more!
Throughout the day I'm constantly checking the time and counting down the minutes until school pickup. Now I can do that in style with my new wooden watch from JORD! I have FALLEN IN LOVE with the beauty and simplicity of this wooden watch!
If you've walked through Walmart, Hobby Lobby, or browsed Pinterest within the last few weeks, you've seen Halloween out and about. So it shouldn't be too revolting that we are talking about it on here right? ;)
I am so excited to share my Halloween piano today. I keep thinking it is a mantle because that is kind of how I treat it. It is indeed a piano though. I do love to play this piano, but it is really fun to decorate too! Speaking of pianos....if you need a free one, check out the San Francisco Bay Area Craigslist "Free Stuff" section. I could get multiple free pianos a week. Even grand pianos! Craziest thing ever.
This piano here was a free find from Craigslist. I gave it a really easy chalk paint/liming wax makeover and fell in love with it. It will accompany me across the country from here on out to wherever we may end up.
To get these spooky spider webs on your mantle or piano, you will need a Craft Size package of Poly-Fil Quilt Batting from Fairfield World. You can grab it from Joann's, Walmart, www.fairfieldworld.com, Amazon...pretty much any major craft retailer.
This Craft Size package was the perfect size for the job. Run, don't walk to your nearest craft store so you can get the perfect faux spider webs just like these.
Alright now the first thing you will do is separate the batting by pulling the layers apart. I got 3 layers total pulled apart. I maybe could have gotten another layer but use your judgment on this. The reason you want to separate these layers is because it thins out the batting and gives a more authentic look.
After you have your thin layers separated, started pulling apart each layer.
You want a thin look like the photo below, with little holes. Try to pull apart the batting enough that you don't have any thick white spots.
Once you've done this to all 3 layers of batting, start laying it over your mantle or piano. If you need smaller pieces, rip your separated layers into pieces for easier decorating.
Throw in a few halloween signs and old apothecary jars. FYI I got these jars at an antique store for dirt cheap! They added a lot of character to this look I think!! Definitely worth scoping out your nearest antique shop.
Hang some cheap witches hat from the ceiling with fishing line (and trim yours better than I did so you don't see the string hanging haha).
Buy batting online here.
And as always, if you have any questions, send us a message. If you recreate this look, tag us on one of our social channels so we can see it!!! Don't forget to follow us so you don't miss out on our next project or mouth watering recipe.
I just might steal this pillow and make it my new pillow I sleep on every night. Kind of kidding, kind of serious. It is so soft and cuddly. This is easily our favorite material we've worked with. The best part? It's machine washable!!!!
This fabric is so soft. I wish you could feel it right now. It has so many beautiful colors running through it as well. Doesn't it just look great in this space? If you've followed our RV renovation then you know we have a lot of crisp clean white in there. If you follow our blog then you know we LOVE adding rustic touches to our spaces. We do that with furniture, decorations, and now with this beautiful throw. This project is SO easy to make. See our tutorial below.
Our brother-in-law built this beautiful table! Our parents gave our sister Amanda some benches that our family used growing up. Prepare yourself...they are 25 years old and were long overdue for a little love!!!
I decided on using the the "One Step Paint". This stuff is amazing and it's just that..... a simple "one step" chalk paint. The sky's the limit with colors! You can color match or pick your favorite shade to be made into the One Step Paint. You can purchase it at Ace Hardware, or by clicking any of our links below.
Simply clean your piece of furniture and paint away! That really is it! Also, something just needs to be said about this paint. It is NOT like traditional chalk paint. If you are not a fan of chalk paint, you have to give this a try. It goes on like butter, doesn't have a funky texture or feel, and it looks smooth (no brush strokes).
We chose a variety of color and textures for our rv couches and bed. You'll notice a lot of light fabrics because we wanted it to look clean and bright in there. A much different look than was in there before. However, we decided to break up some of the white with pops of dark brown, navy blue, and light brown.
Below are cut files for a teacher/classroom gift post for the Silhouette America Blog.
To say I'm obsessed with the Amy Howard paint line would be a huge understatement! I'm ready to redo all the furniture in my house! The process of distressing is achieved with products rather than a sander so I twitch now when I look at my furniture that has been sanded!
This Farmhouse table was the first "real build" that I did solo and I have always loved the table, but I wasn't in love with the paint job. I can honestly say that is no longer the case and I'm so excited to share the process with you!
Tassels add so much cuteness to a party! We usually string them up on the front of the food table. It adds a lot for a little bit of work and money. We typically use tissue paper for our tassels. With tissue paper you have a lot of design pattern and color ideas....there is a downfall though. Tissue paper wrinkles and rips, making the banner a one (maybe two) time use item. We have the perfect solution to this problem. Insert Oly*Fun!
