Cut all three boards in half. You may need to do a little more cutting if they aren't perfect (I speak from experience!) Stain all 6 of your pieces with your varnish. My go to color is Dark Walnut and it's made by minwax. If I could purchase a 55 gallon drum of this stuff I would! Next you'll nail them together. Since the nails are so long, it's a little tricky so I had Rex help me. A few poked through and damaged the wood when they were pulled, out but it gave the shelves character! Haha so be super careful! When nailing them, lay your 1x4 on the table then put the 1x2 in front of it. The will give the shelf a finished edge. The 1x3 will go flush on the back of the 1x4 giving you a ledge shelf that is 3 1/2" deep. Finally spray with your Rust-Oleum finishing spray and let dry! That's it! If you're looking to add color and decor to your room through pictures, you'll love these shelves. Keep in mind that a 3 1/2" depth will obviously limit the amount of decorating!
Here are four we put up in the pedicure room- I love how they turned out! At this point we were setting up the new space so the nail polish hadn't been moved yet, but you get the point!
